Things to Do

The final development phase of Mission Valley’s sprawling 14.3-acre Civita Park was completed in August 2020. This massive development project has transformed a former quarry into one of San Diego’s largest public parks. Amenities and attractions at Civita Park include a civic plaza with an outdoor amphitheater for events, sports fields and courts, two playgrounds with rock climbing walls and rope bridges, a splash pad and interactive water feature, beautiful gardens, and a dramatic 60-foot seasonal waterfall. Residents also enjoy access to the San Diego River Trail, which runs for six miles between Mission Valley’s shopping centers to Ocean Beach. Riverwalk Golf Club offers an 18-hole public golf course with stunning views and attractive water features. Founded in 1769, Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcala is the oldest mission in California. The original mission church was destroyed in the 1770s but was replaced by the current church in the early 19th century. The mission is a National Register Historic Landmark with guided tours available.
