Things to Do

Cabrillo National Monument at Point Loma's southern tip marks the spot where Spanish explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo became the first European to set foot on Californian soil in 1542. The landing is commemorated each year in October with a reenactment during the Cabrillo Festival Open House. The festival also features music, dance, folkloric performances, and food from Spain, Portugal, Mexico, and Native Americans. The park surrounding the Cabrillo Monument provides sweeping views over the ocean and the San Diego skyline. Sunset Cliffs Natural Park is a 68-acre park at the northern end of the peninsula. The park is named after its dramatic ocean cliffs, which offer mesmerizing sunset views out to the horizon. Other interesting sights include daring cliff divers.
